Did I Seriously Waste That Much Time Choosing a Domain Name

Each night I set out a bunch of tasks that I need to completed, and of course rarely complete any of them. Tonight my goals were fairly simple:
- Choose a domain name
- Find a Wordpress template
- Set up Wordpress to domain and add theme.
The prospect of having the whole world at your finger tips is amazing. I’m glad I didn’t have the web when I was school. My education would have been much more useless than it already was, especially considering I still feel school was about memorization and social skills. Social? Right maybe I would have done better if the web was around. But I digress.
Which proves the point I originally was trying to make.
I get distracted way too easily. Just after I finished that sentence I opened up a web browser to look for something and promptly forgot what I was going to look for. Seriously I don’t know how I am ever going to get this other blog up and running at this point.
So when I set out to create a domain name for my Star Wars Clothes site, I wasted way too much time. I had to brainstorm ideas which led to research which of course led to more distractions. After an hour and a half of wasted time I finally purchased the domain name: forceoutfitters.com
Once I was done that it was off to get myself a Wordpress Theme. I used to head to Google to find free themes in the past, but lately I have gone to a site to purchase a theme.
“Wait a sec Chris aren’t you a Wordpress Designer “
Yes I sure am, but one thing I have learned is that things are much easier when you let people do your work for you. It would take me way too long to cook up a theme I was happy with so I went to Theme Forest to pick out a new theme. The beauty about this site is that you can get yourself a premium theme with some really great functionality (some of the themes make WP a full blown CMS) for really cheap. I’m talking $5-30. The theme I chose for this project is called Convergence which was done by one of the most popular WP designers on Theme Forest
So now I have my theme in hand and domain name registered I am off to install Wordpress on the domain and upload the template. I may have time to write some content. I’m not sure, we’ll see how if I can remain focused and get my tasks completed.
For those of you that are following along and do not have a domain name or web hosting I suggest that you find a web host that has an option called ‘Fantastico’ (usually included if your host provides CPanel) what this does is allows you to do a one click install of Wordpress. I use a site called Hawkhost which has ‘Fantastico’, is super cheap and I have never had any problems with them. When I was first creating this post I was going to suggest Go Daddy for hosting but quite often I hear people complain about the customer service. So if you sign up with Hawkhost and have some troubles their support is really good. You can also leave a comment below and I can try to help you out as best as I can.
